This past weekend B and I packed up the car and drove 3 hours to Norfolk, VA to see the Cirque du Soleil Michael Jackson: The Immortal show. On the way, we stopped at Busch Gardens Williamsburg for a day of junk food and rides. We walked our legs off around the park as I regaled B with my stories of what “the real Europe” is like, compared to the Busch Gardens version. I like Busch Gardens because it’s the best parts of Disney for me: Epcot plus a lot more rides. My favorite ride was “Europe in the Air,” probably one of the more boring rides to most people, but I loved it. It was quite similar to Disney’s Soarin’ if you’ve ever been on that. It’s a low impact flight simulator, which makes you feel like you’re flying over Europe. We saw Paris and London of course, and a bit of Italy, but then I was most excited to fly by Neuschwanstein Castle in Germany and then up through the Alps. Unfortunately that’s the closest I’ll get to Germany until we return for the holidays
After the theme park, we drove 40 minutes south to Norfolk, VA where we checked in to our hotel and got ready for the show at 8pm. We got there in time for us to grab a drink and relax in our seats before the show started. Which wound up in my getting so excited I couldn’t sit still. We had great seats and the show was fantastic. It was not your typical Cirque show for a lot of reasons, but most notably was the lack of acrobatics in exchange for stage dancing. I almost felt like I was at a regular Michael Jackson concert. Don’t get me wrong, it was incredible and the dancers were top notch. I just wish it had some more stunts. But overall the show was beautifully done, we loved singing along to all MJ’s greatest hits and being wowed by the intricate dancing and stage work. I think my favorite part was the aerial ring performance. There were 4 or 5 people lit up on only by LED lights on their bodies that did a breathtaking routine high above the crowds on the rings. Their lights changed colors with the music and as they moved. I could watch that for hours. Below are a few photos from their website, which of course, don't do the show justice...
Sunday morning we headed home bright and early to pick up the doggies from camp [Dogtopia]. They were both tuckered out which is always a good thing. After all was said and done, and watched, it was a great weekend! Tough to get back to work today but I can get through it knowing my Amazon delivery is only a day away! My very special Amazon delivery is none other than the Collectors Edition Rainbow Brite DVD with all 13 episodes of the show and the Care Bears Movie (the original)!! They arrive Tuesday and I couldn't be more excited.
Hope you all had a great weekend as well.
