Last week at work we had a Happy Hour at Top Golf (a high tech driving range with bar/food service). Afterwards, as the group was thinning out, I found myself at a table with some of my work bosses, talking about golf and the US Open. They were quickly impressed by my expansive knowledge of many up and coming, and currently high ranking golfers. What I didn’t divulge, was WHY I knew so many golfers. As any female golf fan can attest, most male golfers are hot. Plain and simple. The style of dress found on any golf pro these days is much more GQ than the cable knit sweaters and boring polo shirts of yore. Need proof? Check out some of these hotties:

See what I mean? Yowza. Don’t get me wrong, I love golf, and I certainly appreciate and can recognize their talents on the links. But I’m also able to appreciate their good looks :)
That said, my golf boyfriend for the past three years has been the one and only Nick Watney. We’ve had a standing love affair for years. My Dad has been known to call me anytime he sees Nick on TV or when he’s doing well in a tournament. I’ve seen him play live twice now; however this weekend when we had tickets to the final two days of the US Open, he failed to make the cut. What. The. Hell. So I needed to find a new golf boyfriend and Martin Kaymer was it. He is straight-up German and gorgeous. Doesn’t hurt that he is ranked as the #2 player in the world. He didn’t win (or even come close) this weekend but it was still fun to see him play.
This weekend at the Open my Dad and I took a different strategy than we have at past tournaments. Instead of following certain players or running all over the course, we found a great spot in the shade, right on the green of Hole 5. When players approached, we could see their fairway shots onto the green, and were then only yards away from their putts. It was perfect. We also made some new friends with the folks around us (namely the group of guys who appreciated Heineken and the Twizzlers I was providing throughout the day). By staying in one spot, we had a great view of all the players, including the run-away winner, Rory McIlroy! Interestingly enough, he had the WORST shot up to our green but still managed to pull of par. The kid deserved the win, he played a great game. Also by watching all of the players go through the same hole for two days, it became so clear how insanely good these guys are at their game. Not that there was ever a doubt, but seriously, these guys are amazingly talented. I can’t tell you how many shots went into bunkers or the rough that they still managed to birdie or par. Tiger (Woods) wasn’t there this weekend and we didn’t miss him at all. We’ve seen him play before and I’d say it was a better tournament without him! Watching Rory play up close was more exciting than it ever was to see Tiger. It was refreshing!
It was a great Father’s Day weekend at the US Open. It’s the third tournament my Dad and I have been to together and it’s a tradition that I love. We have so much fun spending the days together and watching the play. Fingers crossed that the AT&T National tournament is back in town next summer and we can make it Number 4! I love you, Dad! Happy Fathers Day!
