Once home from Munich, we packed back up and headed to Portugal! We flew into Faro, Portugal on the southern coast and Rob drove us to our apartment in Lisboa (Lisbon). Lisbon was absolutely beautiful and our apartment was in a great location right off the metro.
Our first day we explored the city on a tour that I put together. We got to see the Port Wine Museum, some beautiful views, the oldest Beer Hall in Portugal (also a GREAT place for lunch!) and many other awesome sights and neighborhoods. Lisbon is a lot like San Francisco with all the hills.
Another day we took the train out to Sintra, a small town about 30 minutes outside of Lisbon. Its claim to fame is this beautiful castle I posted about before the trip, however we decided to go on the foggiest day of the trip. Made for some neat photos though. We spent the day in the town and then took the bus up to the tippy top of the mountain to visit not one, but two castles. I highly recommend spending the day in Sintra if you’re ever out that way.
Our last few nights in Lisbon were spent exploring the city and all the great neighborhoods it has to offer. From Bairro Alto to Biaxa Chiado we found great places around every corner. Our favorite was the restaurant we ate at on our last night, of course named, Sacramento. Despite the name, it was authentic Portuguese cuisine and we loved it. Portugal was an amazing country and we couldn't have had a better time. The people were all so friendly, everything was very reasonably priced and the sights were breathtaking. This says a lot coming from a crew who has seen their share of Europe. If you're looking for a unique and inexpensive vacation, I recommend adding Lisbon to your list. Check on Trip Advisor for restaurant recommendations, we've never been led astray!
